Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory charity on every Muslim male of female regardless of their age or income. It has to be paid by the end of Ramadan or on the day of Eid before the Eid prayer. The head of the household may pay the required amount for all other family members (including a baby on the way). The amount of zakat payable is approximately 5 lb. of staple food in the relevant country or an amount of money that is equivalent to the price of the food. The dollar amount in Central Florida is approximately $10.00 per person.
